Introduction
Greetings to all who enter! This is a blog for all of those joining us in June 07 for a sail down the Dalmatian coast to celebrate my 50th birthday. I'm hoping this might be a forum for family and friends to "mingle" prior to the cruise. Feel free to post comments, pictures, websites and tidbits that you think might be of interest to your fellow sailors. (click on the '_ comments' below to contribute, its easy)

Hi Everyone one. I am Sean's sister Louella. My daughter Jamila and I are sooo looking forward to this wonderful journey we will be spending with you all and especially Seany.THE BIRTHDAY BOY.
Speak soon
2:22 pm
Hi it's Philip here, Sean's partner and co host of this amazing European trip. We went to Crotia on the October long weekend and checked out our vessel which was right up to expectations.
2:13 pm
Ah hoi there shipmates! Colin here, finally Sean gets his own website blog thingy! As if the FBI's most wanted wasn't enough.
Looking forward to the big birthday adventure next year and currently wrangling which airline landing gear to hitch a lift on!
Can anyone supply info on their current routing and airline to get there?
12:13 pm
Hi Garry & Donald are very happy to join the other bloggers who will be celebrating Sean's 50th on the exciting journey along the Dalmation coast. Catching up with Sean's family most of whom we know & love, meeting up with new & old friend's, it's going to be a wonderful adventure.
We are contemplating flying into Rome, train to Venice and ferry to Split. If anyone has caught the Venice - Split ferry let us know if it's a comfortable & reliable way to go. Will bring the Pope's blessings from Rome especially for Sean & all the other lapsed Catholics.
Looking forward to being in touch again soon.

Regarding flights Colin - there are many an airline - and it depends on your frequent flier preferences et al... travel.com.au is good for us when we fly - you can get a good idea of prices and destinations with different airlines - and if you need connecting flights within europe and want to do it cheaply try: www.skyscanner.net

Cheers Trevor! Keeping my eye on webjet.com.au but a few more won't hurt. One World is a favourite for me, reminds me of the Old Country days when I was more jetset.

Nice to see so many comments, especially references to lapsed catholics...as Lou said, there are so many of us! Airfares proving to be interesting. Philip and I are going on a Lufhansa/Thai deal that goes thru Bangkok and Frankfurt. Mum, Dad, Lou and Jamila are hoping to be on same flight out of Bangkok (they're coming from Brisbane)and airfares coming out around $2,000. We are leaving on Tuesday 12th of June and overnighting in Bangkok for a one-night stopover. We fly to Frankfurt on Wed night the 13th and arrive early Thursday morning. We then catch connecting flight to Ljubljana (spell?) to start the "inland" tour with many of you. We have 2 nights in Ljub before training it to Zagreb.
I have found cheapest flights on
www.bestflights.com.au
Flights thru London should be avoided at cost unless you're spending time in the UK - too difficult to transit and too far away. Frankfurt and Rome closer.
Gaz and Don....if you're doing the inland tour with us you need to get yourselves to Ljubjana in Slovenia, NOT Split! All must arrive in Ljub by by Thursday 14th.
Lou, Collie and others who can, pls send a photo to web-guru Trevor so he can load it up (or if you're smart you can do it yourself!). Trevor has his email link in the first comment
7:35 pm
Oh lord! I suppose you'll be wanting a facepic ;-p
4:54 pm
Yes, big smiley face pics pls. And Mr/Ms Anonymous, instead of selecting the "anonymous" identity, how about chosing "other" and put your name in the box...SO WE KNOW WHO THE HELL YOU ARE!!!!!!! You could be a stalker for all we know......
7:54 pm
Well i think i have broken the chain of the lapsed Catholics, mum didnt get me christened. Phew.
7:55 pm
Hi everyone my name is Greg, and Colin (who has already placed some comments) is my partner. We're going to be visiting his rels in Ireland (before joining you all on the boat) which reminds me, did you here of the Irish honeymoon couple who stayed up all night waiting for the sexual relations to arrive?
Love you "Dollface"

Happy New Year to all fellow travvelers. 2007 has finally arrived and only 6 months till the big event.
Caught up with many of the fellow travellers over the Christmas/New Year holidays.
The birthday boy & Philip spent Christmas day with us enjoying lots of wonderful food & drink including Sean's White Christmas.
Other fellow travllers that enjoyed the meal at Chrismas were Philp's sister Lee & sister-in-law Jenny.
Pat the pudding was beautiful as usual, but what was special were the words on the card sent to the 4 of us.
New Year's eve to see the fireworks at Sean & Philip's smart newly renovated apartment. Caught us with other fellow travellers Greg & Colin, Trevor & Sylvain & Tim Barns for the New Year's hour.
Have seen some of Trevor's photos from that night and from the look of the professionalism of both Trevor & Colin think we had better brush up on our photographic skills for the cruise.
Warm wishes to all for the New Year.

After checking to see if my latest comment was published I noticed my spelling errors! Think it is time to forget vanity and do something about my eyesight. Don't want to miss any of the spectacular sights along Dalmatian Coast!

Tick, tick, tick, June is sure coming along quickly! The flights are booked, the photo's are on the crew page and my Croatian is coming along...now the big question is do I pack for a Sydney summer, i.e. speedo's, sunnies etc or a European summer i.e. raincoat, jumper, pneumonia kit!
Do viđenja

Hi Philip again. Only next month till we go! Make sure you have a VISA card (or perhaps a Mastercard) for the trip. Hint, if you don't want to be paying interest, put money into the account before you leave
australia. That way you will be spending your own money, not Visa's. The cost of withrawing cash from an ATM is lower than the cost of travellers cheques, and very convenient for accessing the local currency. I have found it the best way to travel!
Gotta go, off to a Spiderman preview with Sean.
5:39 pm
Its five weeks to go and my bride is packed. I think she is a little excited.
8:40 am
Hi all, we are passing the Orange Spot on the way to the Air Port. would anyone like a Vinella slice? Can deliver to Plitvick, but I think i will get hungry before Split! Geoff & Annette
8:44 am
Hi louella. In 1992, you read my Tarrot cards. you told me I would lead a life at sea. - wow you are good!!!
Geoff
8:49 am
hello everyone. Has anyone done any research on local currencies? if so whats the go on what we should carry? Crona V Euro V $US.
cheers Geoff
1:11 pm
Hi All! To answer your currency question Geoff - best advice I can offer is to get an international ATM card from your bank and withdraw local currency from your savings/chq acct at an ATM. We'll be carrying a small amount of Euros but most of our spend will be on to a Visa or Mastercard. WORD OF CAUTION: American Express and Diners are not widely used in these parts so ensure you have alternative. In Croatia most shops and restaurants take Euro but you will lose in the exchange rate - best to use local currency, Kuna, of which you get about 4.5 for every Aussie dollar. E.g. We are having a set price dinner for Louella's birthday and four courses is costing 140 kuna - that's about AU$30.
In case anyone NOT from Adelaide is wondering about Geoff's reference to the "Orange Spot", he is talking about a famous cake shop in the palindromic suburb of Glenelg. Its scones, pasties and vanilla slices are the stuff of legends.
Itineraries are being finalised by our travel agents and more info to follow soon.
ONE THING FOR THE DIARY: On Friday the 22nd of June, the day most of us arrive in Split - Philip is hosting a "meet and greet" cocktail event on the terrace of the Le Meridien hotel, overlooking the sun-drenched Adriatic. The hotel is in a gorgeous spot 15 mintues out of town. A bus will collect us from our hotel at 6pm and return at 8pm. After that, the town is yours to paint red. Love, XXXOOO
4:28 pm
Hi Geoff,
Wow together the cousins sail the great oceans. God I am good at the tarot cards. Better bring them on the trip to see what other adventures you are going to experience in 15 years time. So glad you guys are coming.
Louella

Latest News: Our travel coordinator should get itineraries to us today or Monday. Once we have them Philip and I can send out a little birthday parcel for each of you. This contains essential holiday accoutrements. Watch the letter box next week! I'm having travel anxiety dreams...what does that mean?
10:24 am
Well it is mostly true I have had my clothes packed for about a month- only b/c it's so cold in Adelaide and I've packed away the cosies now for winter!
Anyway to answer an earlier question - being the ultimate optimist I'm packed for summer all the way- no european winter for me! Any other comments on weather and dress most welcome...
Annette
7:46 pm
PS Weather forecast for late June is highs in the range of 26-32, this weeks weather 21/25/26/25/26...

7:58 pm
Pat I have packed my Roseary beads and am ready to join you for stations of the cross! Please let my mother know as she is threatening to cut me off!
9:48 am
I think I must be on the wrong boat. Can someone direct me to the birthday cruise (not of Jesus or Mary) happening somewhere close to here (I hope!) ?
Otherwise I've packed all the wrong things.
10:05 am
you are feeling guilt my son. Bring your things and we will give them to the good st Vincent
I am sure we can all
...say a little prayer for you...
4:27 pm
The only 'say a little prayer for you' I'll accept is the song from the "My Best Friend's Wedding" soundtrack. But I'm not planning to break into song here nor on the boat/ship/cruiser/yacht. As for guilt, I'm not catholic - so I'm not pre-loaded, thank, um, buddha.
3:21 am
Dear Trevor
its 3 in the morning and your up at a blog site. Sounds like Guilt is keeping you tossing and turning my son. Its time for a little reflection - try ...brown paper packages tied up with string...

Mmmmm - that was an interesting experiment. I tried to change a blog comment and could only delete it! Bugger.
Anyway, four weeks to go before the boat leaves and 3 weeks to go before the pre-cruise tour leaves! I'm getting so excited I'll need a nappy soon....
BLOG TIP: if you write comment under "anonymous" PLEASE sign off with your name so we know who is slinging off at us!!!
ALSO - everybody wish Cousin Geoff good luck for a big job interview he has on Friday for Great Southern Railways. He has to get this job because we all want cheap rides on the Indian Pacific and The Ghan. GO GEOFF!
6:17 pm
Thanks Sean. I could probably offer you a job on the trains fluffing pillows and what not. Is that cheap enough?
Pat you can pray. Sean you can too but I am not sure he will listen.
PS Trevor and Pat, I beleive the blessed Vergin has a habit of appearing in a small town about 60Kms from Split. Will furnish you with details ASAP
Cousin Geoff,
8:17 pm
ps excuse spelling above. my english teacher was a nun!
8:18 pm
You english teaching nun should be shot for what she taught you Geoff. I presume she a vergin too?
She'd be vergin' on insane after what you got up to in class, I'm sure.
6:32 pm
....of course I meant "your" English teacher.
Not having spell check is a pain!
6:35 pm
Mother of the birthday boy,
